Major-accident Risk Analysis (SEVESO)

Directive 2012/18/EE on the control of major-accident hazards involving dangerous substances is the third update of the Seveso legislation, which is better known as Seveso III.

Historical data

The informal name of this directive comes from the small Italian town of Seveso, where a chemical factory was located.
In August 1978, at this plant, a large-scale accident occurred that led to the release of dioxin (TCDD) into the environment.
Due to this accident, over 3000 animals were poisoned and another 80000 were killed to prevent dioxins from entering the food chain.
In the last 40 years, many scientific investigations and statistical analyzes have been carried out in the area, which verify the increase in carcinogenesis and hormonal disorders in the population.
For the above reasons, the European Commission defined the framework and requirements to avoid such incidents in the future.
Rchem’s experienced staff can undertake the inspection of your factory, inform you of the obligations deriving from the Seveso III Directive and implement the necessary actions.
